Canada eliminates additional CRS points for job offers in Express Entry.

As of March 25, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced a major change to the Express Entry system:

Elimination of Bonus CRS Points for Job Offers

Candidates will no longer receive additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for having a valid job offer, including those backed by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Previously, such job offers contributed 50 to 200 points to a candidate’s CRS score, depending on the role’s classification.

Impact of This Change

  • Effect on CRS Scores: Candidates who relied on job offers to increase their CRS scores may now experience a decline in their rankings within the Express Entry pool.
  • Strategic Adjustments: With job offers no longer boosting scores, applicants will need to focus on other CRS factors, such as language proficiency, educational qualifications, and skilled work experience, to enhance their chances of selection.
  • Employer Implications: Canadian employers who previously used job offers to support foreign workers’ immigration through Express Entry may need to reassess their approach in light of this modification.

Official Announcement from IRCC

According to the IRCC, “As of March 25, 2025, job offer points will no longer be awarded under the Comprehensive Ranking System. This change applies to both current and future candidates in the Express Entry pool.”

Recommended Steps for Applicants

Reevaluate CRS Scores – Candidates should check their current CRS standings without job offer points to assess their competitiveness.
Strengthen Other Factors – Improving language test scores, pursuing higher education, or gaining additional skilled work experience can help compensate for the removal of job offer points.
Consider Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) – Many PNPs offer additional CRS points, which could help candidates maintain a competitive edge in the selection process.
